Image stacking is a crucial step in the astrophotography editing workflow to improve the image quality by reducing noise and boosting details. In this article, we have discussed how to use Photoshop for image stacking of starry landscapes, and here is a great video tutorial from Lonely Speck. Mac Astronomy and Astrophotography software I currently collect and edit all of my astrophotography images on a PC computer, but what about Mac users? The post-processing side of things is easy, Mac users can use Photoshop, Lightroom, PixInsight, or any other of the premium creative tools. RegiStax is a free image processing software for amateur astrophotographers, released as freeware, which runs under Windows. A compatible version for Mac OS is also available as a emu file (see Download below) Its purpose is to produce enhanced images of astronomic observations through combining. Simple post-stacking processes to quickly view the final result. Saving the resulting image to a TIFF or FITS file (16 or 32 bit) After a shooting night you give all your pictures (light frames, darks frames, offset/bias frames, flat frames) to DeepSkyStacker and you go to bed.
Welcome to Part 2 of the Easy Deep Sky Astrophotography Guide. Best wow unit frames addon. In this part we'll talk about stacking your images. If you missed part one on how to take the pictures you can find it here:
And Part 3 can be found here:
This guide demonstrates how to take pictures of deep space objects, like the one above, using just your camera on a tripod. There is no telescope, tracking mount or expensve autoguiding equipment required. This is a great way to get into astrophotography wthout the heavy initial expense.
In this post there is a video demonstrating how to use the free to download software Deep Sky Stacker for the PC and also a post on using Regim which can be used on a Mac and is also free to download and use.
I would recommend using Deep Sky Stacker if you have Parallels or Bootcamp on your Mac. Regim has a few bugs that are being ironed out and hopefully will be sorted out in the imminent version 3.

How to Use Deep Sky Stacker
Without further ado here is the video tutorial for stacking your images in DeepSkyStacker. It covers all the basics in the stacking process.
How to Use Regim
This is the video on using Regim. This free to download software runs in Java. This means Mac users without access to DeepSkyStacker can now stack their astroimages. This video demonstrates how to start the program using a Terminal window and how to set it up to stack your images.
Onto Processing…
Once you have stacked your pictures it's time to move onto processing the stacked image. This can be an art form and there is no right way. In the next part of the guide we'll cover some basic processing steps, using free or readily available software only.
